I've been a reporter and editor for various news publications since 1991, doing lots of photography and Web programming along the way. My earlier days includes a stint covering the police beat for the Los Angeles Times, but my love of colder and more remote places has led to recent jobs such as Sunday editor of the daily newspaper in Alaska's capital city and overhauling the Web site as a co-editor of The Antarctic Sun at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Hundreds of examples of my work are available from the archives of the above publications, with a few featured samples below. |

Writing The Antarctic
Sun A big moment for the South Pole: Unlimited ice cream arrives as part of long-awaited new station. The wonders of Weddell World: Lessons from watching seals with "helmet cameras" for five years. A bulldozer birthday bash: Covering catastrophies wins Pulizters, but is it possible to write a gripping story about a party for a tractor? Juneau
Empire A laughing legacy: The inside, in-depth story of perhaps the most inept political campaign ever in a state with a long history of them. Los Angeles
Times Looking
for love: A touching tale of prison inmates and
the many women who answer their classified ads seeking romance. |
Photos An old favorite from the Los Angeles Times: A 3-year-old who won a lifetime supply of Ben and Jerry's. |
